Mt. LEMMON PLANTS AVAILABLE FOR PROPERTY OWNERS -  2008

Trees for Mt. Lemmon has several sources of plants for distribution to property owners.  Because our goal is to revegetate the native species from the mountain, we collect seeds and plants from Summerhaven and environs to be grown until they are ready for planting.  We usually distribute these plants during the monsoon months of July and August.

In order to provide property owners with a variety of plants for revegetating and landscaping, Trees for Mt. Lemmon works in conjunction with Brad Blake from Northern Arizona University to accomplish our goal.  Each year Brad comes to Mt. Lemmon to harvest seeds and cuttings and then cultivates them under optimum conditions in Flagstaff.  When plants are ready,  they are transported to Mt. Lemmon for distribution.  Funding for these projects comes from various events such as the Aspen Ball and generous donations from the community.  In 2007, Ponderosa pine, White Fir, Douglas Fir, coyote willow, osier dogwood, cliffbush and Arizona fescue were made available.  In 2008, we distributed Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and Strawberry.  The distribution season is now over (Fall 2008)

There are also several botanical gardens and commercial growers who have plants suitable for the area of Summerhaven.  The listing is available (here).  If you find more sources, please contact us at:
